Meet the Pattersims

Back row: Robin, Elizabeth, John, Elly, Mike and Deanna
Front row: April, Meredith

This is my second or third attempt to put the Pattersons from For Better or For Worse into Sims 3.  The trouble is that I grow bored with them almost immediately and start playing with another family in town, so lose track of what they're up to.

Household Name: Patterson
Funds:  §506,048
Number of Residents:  8

John Patterson - Human, Male, Elder
John's career as a dentist has reached a natural end and he has retired, but still maintains a financial interest in several local businesses. He now spends his time in his workshop and playing with his toy train set.
Traits
  • Heavy sleeper - he dislikes being woken to talk about relationships at 2 in the morning
  • Lucky - how else would this family be so successful without an extra dose of luck?
  • Handy - closest trait for someone obsessed with making model trains
  • Good - well, isn't he?
  • Inappropriate - well, isn't he?

Elly Patterson - Human, Female, Elder
Elly never quite knew what she wanted from life. She thought it might be a writing career, or possibly a husband and family. She's nearing retirement and still hasn't worked it out yet, but at least she got a nice house of it, even if it's always messy.
Traits
  • Frugal - Elly loves to count pennies and save money despite the family being absolutely loaded
  • Lucky - same reason as John. A real-life person as morose and neurotic as Elly would never get as far in life as Elly Patterson did in the strip.
  • Neat - obviously!
  • Neurotic - obviously!
  • Technophobe

Michael Patterson - Human, Male, Young Adult
Michael dreams of making it big as an author. If only his annoying children would leave him alone long enough to finish writing his novel! He has a wife, too.
Traits
  • Mooch - in-strip Mike and his family move in with his parents after a house fire and then stay for months and months, displacing his sisters, finally resulting in his parents and sisters moving out and leaving him the house.
  • Lucky - the samples of Mike's writing published on the official website means that luck or blackmail was the only way he got that publishing contract
  • Hopeless Romantic - standing on a rooftop shouting his love for Deanna until she caved under the embarrassment of it all and said she loved him back, just to get him to shut up and stop humiliating her
  • Excitable - as above
  • Handy - a necessary trait for someone who does the landlady's job for her

Deanna Patterson - Human, Female, Young Adult
Deanna is an expert at multi-tasking, managing a household, family and full-time job, almost entirely on her own!
Traits
  • Nurturing - I needed a Sim in this household who would pay some attention to the kids
  • Frugal - Deanna supports Mike in his mooching and they get free accommodation for ages
  • Family-oriented - "I thought I was using birth control!"
  • Workaholic - this just upped her martyr factor as she juggled the competing demands of family and work, especially since she doesn't get any help from her husband
  • Natural Cook - again, I needed someone who'd be able to feed a household of eight

Elizabeth Patterson - Human, Female, Young Adult
Elizabeth just can't seem to find success in love, although her family seems certain that she just has to re-meet the man of their dreams.
Traits
  • Family-oriented - Elizabeth needs a husband and children to feel fulfilled
  • Hopeless Romantic - Elizabeth feels incomplete without a boyfriend
  • Slob - Now fixed.  I accidentally had this as Handy, which Elizabeth clearly wasn't, but she was definitely a slob!  Plenty of scope for fights with her mother.
  • Couch Potato - Elizabeth likes to wait for life to happen to her, then sulks when it doesn't
  • Loves the Outdoors - because while she was away from her parents' home and living up north, it really seemed like she would develop into an entirely new character.  I'm keeping this trait in here because it must exist somewhere deep insider her and it gives other players a chance to try to redeem her.

April Patterson - Human, Female, Teen
If it hadn't been for her grandfather sharing with her his love of music, April knows that she'd have been driven mad years ago.
Traits
  • Good - when it comes right down to it, all the Patterson kids gave their parents a really easy ride, especially through high school when the worst they got up to was watching other kids misbehave
  • Friendly - she seemed friendly enough in the strip
  • Star Quality - but Becky might think otherwise about the true star of 4-Evah's original line-up
  • Virtuoso - it wasn't made clear in the strip whether or not April was tremendously talented at the guitar or just adequate, but this gives players something to use.

Meredith Patterson - Human, Female, Child
Meredith is relatively personality-free. She seems to enjoy fighting with her younger brother, but otherwise has no defining traits beyond pouty lips.
Traits
  • Artistic - I have no idea whether she is or not in the strip, but I had to give her something.
  • Excitable
  • Good

Robin Patterson - Human, Male, Toddler
So this is Robin. Well, it's not like there was much to work with, OK? (And I don't mean a lack of options in TS3.)
Traits
  • Grumpy
  • Loves the Outdoors
